Kings Trade Tukonen To Stars

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired left wing Richard Clune from Dallas in exchange for right wing Lauri Tukonen, it was announced today by Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi. Clune, 21, was selected by Dallas in the third round (71st overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He played in 38 games with the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season and recorded eight points (3-5=8) while finishing second on the club with 137 penalty minutes. Clune, a 6-0, 195-pound native of Toronto, also skated in 19 games with the ECHL?s Idaho Steelheads this past season and registered 10 points (1-9=10) and 41 penalty minutes. Clune finished third on his team in goals (32), assists (46) and points (78) and led his club in penalty minutes (151) while skating with the Ontario Hockey League?s (OHL) Barrie Colts during the 2006-07 season. He also led the Colts in postseason scoring with seven points (3-4=7) and eight penalty minutes in eight playoff games that year. In addition, Clune appeared in one game with the Iowa Stars that same season, recording two penalty minutes. Tukonen, 21, recorded 35 points (9-26=35) and 24 penalty minutes in 62 games this past season with the Manchester Monarchs (AHL). The 6-2, 198-pound native of Hyvinkaa, Finland also went scoreless in one game with the Kings and in two playoffs games with the Monarchs this past season. Originally selected by the Kings in the first round (11th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Tukonen has appeared in five career NHL games ? all with the Kings.

Columbus Acquires Pick For Joakim Lindstrom

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired a conditional draft pick from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Joakim Lindstrom, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Lindstrom, 24, collected three goals and four assists for seven points and had 14 penalty minutes in 25 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He also registered 25-35-60 and 68 penalty minutes in 49 games with the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? American Hockey League affiliate, including 4-3-7 and six penalty minutes in 13 playoff games. In 37 career NHL games, he has recorded 4-4-8 and 18 penalty minutes while adding 65-94-159 and 154 penalty minutes in 176 career AHL games.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed free agent left wing Craig MacDonald to a one-year contract and re-signed center Derek MacKenzie to a two-year contract, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Both are two-way NHL-American Hockey League contracts and, keeping with club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed. MacDonald, 31, registered two goals and nine assists for 11 points and 16 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, setting career highs in assists, points, and games played. He was nominated for the Bill Masterton Trophy, awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey. Hartford?s third pick, 88th overall, in the 1996 Entry Draft, has registered 10-23-33 and 91 penalty minutes in 225 career NHL games with Carolina, Florida, Boston, Calgary, Chicago, and Tampa Bay. He has also recorded 76-135-211 and 386 penalty minutes in 313 career AHL games with New Haven, Lowell, Omaha, and Norfolk. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound MacDonald spent two seasons at Harvard and notched 13-20-33 and 30 penalty minutes in 66 games. In 1997-98, he played for the Canadian National Team and had 18-29-47 and 38 penalty minutes in 58 games. He made his NHL debut with Carolina at Pittsburgh on January 7, 1999, and spent the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons with Cincinnati of the International Hockey League. He tallied 32-52-84 and 180 penalty minutes in 160 career games for the Cyclones. MacKenzie, 27, scored two goals and had eight penalty minutes in 17 games with the Blue Jackets last season, including his first career NHL goal against Tampa Bay on March 9. He added 25-24-49, 46 penalty minutes and had a plus/minus rating of +6 in 62 games with the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? AHL affiliate, setting career highs in goals, assists, and points. He tied for the club lead in goals and was fourth in points while ranking fourth in the AHL in shorthanded goals (four). In 13 Calder Cup playoff games, he collected 6-8-14 and 22 penalty minutes to lead the club in goals and points. Prior to joining the Blue Jackets' organization last year, he spent the previous six campaigns as a member of the Atlanta Thrashers' organization. In 2006-07, he was scoreless in four games with the Thrashers and tallied 14-23-37 with 62 penalty minutes and a +14 plus/minus rating in 52 games with the Chicago Wolves, the club?s AHL affiliate. Atlanta?s sixth pick, 128th overall, in the 1999 Entry Draft, has registered 2-2-4 and 28 penalty minutes in 45 career NHL games. He made his NHL debut with the Thrashers against the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Apr. 12, 2002. He has also tallied 83-101-184 and 441 penalty minutes with a cumulative plus/minus rating of +38 in 377 career AHL games with the Crunch and Chicago Wolves.

Sharks Trade Rivet To Sabres For Draft Picks

The Sharks traded veteran defenseman Craig Rivet to the Sabres on Friday for two second-round draft choices, according to an Associated Press report. The Sharks also gave up a seventh-round pick in 2010 along with Rivet, the longtime Montreal defenseman who joined the Sharks in a trade late in the 2006-07 season. San Jose gets a second-round draft choice in each of the last two drafts.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defensemen Matt Carle and Ty Wishart along with San Jose?s first-round pick in 2009 and its fourth-round pick in 2010 in exchange for defensemen Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich today, owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie announced. "We are thrilled to add a player with Matt's abilities to our roster as we continue our plan of retooling and refinishing the Lightning team," said Vice President of Hockey Operations Brian Lawton. "He quarterbacked the number one power play unit in the NHL two seasons ago as a rookie and he clearly will add speed and skill to our lineup. He fits with our plan of trying to getting younger and better." "Anytime you consider trading a player of Dan Boyle's caliber, you have to be sure of your options and subsequent decisions. For years, Dan has been a big part of the Lightning's success, but we felt the need to make this move was in the best interest of our present and our future. We know this has been difficult for Dan and his family but he has been nothing but a professional through the entire process and we thank him for that." Carle, 6-foot, 205 pounds, played in 62 games with San Jose last season. He recorded two goals and 15 points with two power-play goals. He ranked fifth on the team among San Jose defensemen in points. Carle played in 11 playoff games and recorded one assist. A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Carle has played in 151 career NHL games. He has tallied 16 career goals and registered 63 points with 12 power-play goals. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2006-07 after playing in 77 games with the Sharks and scoring 11 goals with 42 points. Carle led the Sharks in scoring among defenseman and was sixth overall. He also led all rookie defensemen in scoring and ranked sixth overall in the NHL. Carle has skated in 33 career playoff games, recording two goals and nine points. He also represented the United States at the 2004 World Junior Championships, scoring one goal in six games. Prior to joining the Sharks, Carle played three seasons at the University of Denver. He played in 110 games with the Pioneers, recording 28 goals and 119 points. He won the Hobey Baker Award as the nation?s top collegiate player and was named the WCHA?s top player in 2005-06. Carle became the first player in WCHA history to win Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season while leading all NCAA defensemen in goals, assists and points. He was named to the first-team NCAA All-American Team in 2004-05 as he won his second consecutive national championship. A first-round draft choice, Wishart was San Jose's first selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, 16th overall. The 6-5, 210-pound defenseman played 72 games with Prince George and Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League last season, recording 16 goals and 67 points. He also played in five games with the Worchester Sharks of the American Hockey League to finish the season. A native of Comox, British Columbia, Wishart played in 262 career WHL games with Prince George and Moose Jaw. He netted 33 career goals and recorded 161 points. He played in 26 playoff games and netted four goals with 15 points.

Leafs Acquire Grabovski From Canadiens

Cliff Fletcher, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the hockey club has obtained centreman Mikhail Grabovski (pronounced ?gra BAWV-skee?) from the Montreal Canadiens. In exchange, the Canadiens will receive the rights to Greg Pateryn (selected in the 5th round of the 2008 Entry Draft) and Toronto?s second-round draft selection in 2010. ?Mikhail had tremendous success at the most recent World Hockey Championships,? said Fletcher. ?He has great upside and we will look for him to contribute for us right away at the centre position.? Grabovski, 24, scored three goals and added six assists in 24 games for Montreal in 2007-08. He recorded his first NHL goal against Boston?s Manny Fernandez on October 22 at the Bell Centre. He missed 25 games due to an ankle injury this past season. Upon his return from the injury, he recorded 20 points in 12 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs. His efforts earned him AHL Player of the Week honours for the period ending February 17. He was named first star in five consecutive AHL games from February 15 to February 20 at which point he was recalled to Montreal for the remainder of the season. The native of Potsdam, East Germany was originally Montreal?s fourth choice, 150th overall, in 2004.
